If a newborn baby doesn't look like his mother, father, sisters and brothers, it always causes misunderstandings. And even if the spouses have complete trust in each other, the very fact that the baby's appearance is very different from the rest of the family members and especially the parents causes them discomfort.
So it's very easy to understand the mental doubts experienced by Nigerians Angela and Ben Ihegoro, who had a completely white girl born to them.
The situation is further aggravated by the fact that the couple has no light-skinned relatives.
Both parents and medical staff are shocked.
Ben and Angela are pure-blooded Nigerians with very dark skin and no European ancestry. Some time ago, the couple emigrated to England, and as if by some miracle, life among "white" people brought new colors to this family.

Despite the fact that both the couple and their son and daughter, already born in England, have dark skin, their daughter Nmachi was born with fair skin and blue eyes. At the same time, the baby's facial features are clearly African, as befits a Nigerian daughter: round eyes, plump lips, curly hair. That is, of course, there is no question that the child was replaced or confused with another.
When Angela is shown the white baby, she is shocked and very scared. The woman simply cannot imagine what her husband will think. The situation can become tragic: for example, having suspected his wife of infidelity, Ben can file for divorce. Moreover, the hospital staff is no less shocked than the woman in labor herself, which means that the doctors cannot give any intelligible arguments to calm the baby's father.

Oddities of genetics
Fortunately, Ben doesn't pull out his hair or attack his wife with his fists. He decides to find out in depth how this could happen, since he's never had any reason to suspect his wife of cheating on him with a European.
First of all, he draws attention to the fact that the child was conceived naturally and Angela's pregnancy proceeded completely normally - just like in the case of their eldest son and daughter, who are dark-skinned. The facial features of little Nmachi (that's the girl's name) are very similar to both his wife and him.

“Of course she’s mine,” Ben says of the baby, “My wife is faithful to me. Even if that weren’t the case and she cheated on me with a white man, the child wouldn’t look like our daughter – a girl born to a white man would only be mulatto, but not as snow-white and blue-eyed as our Nmachi.” And Ben’s arguments are quite reasonable.
The couple finally understands what the “secret” is. After researching the topic and talking to experts, the couple learns that similar genetic abnormalities, while extremely rare, do occur from time to time in African families.

A genetic abnormality has occurred. Photo: allplaynews.com
The scientific explanation for this phenomenon is that one of the two parents has white ancestors in the family tree, and these genes played a decisive role in determining the skin color of little Nmachi. These may not be grandparents, great-grandparents or great-great-grandparents, but some even more distant relative. Perhaps the connection between an ancestor and a person with white skin occurred even four or five generations ago. And this gene “sleeps” for many decades, and then suddenly manifests itself in their baby.
Ben and Angela firmly believe that their newborn baby's skin color and blue eyes are a blessing. From the very first days, they began calling their daughter Angel.
What does Nmachi look like now?
Whatever happens to little Nmachi, her parents couldn't be happier – they thank God for the day they welcomed her into their lives.
Now the girl is already 13 years old, and a photo of Nmachi at school age has appeared on the Internet. Neither her skin nor the color of her hair and eyes has changed. True, it is not easy to establish one hundred percent that this is really Nmachi, because her parents do not seek to make the girl a public figure. We only know that Nmachi is still white like an albino. And she looks very impressive.

As the media reports, the girl with an unusual appearance has no difficulty communicating with her peers – no one insults or teases her, everyone accepts her for who she is. Her older brother and sister also recognize the baby from his first days.

Nmachi's health, as initially assumed by doctors, is good - the genetic breakdown has not affected the functioning of her body in any way, and apart from her appearance, the gene, which is atypical for an African woman, is no longer responsible for anything.
