After more than twenty years of marriage, Mary desired only one thing: a private moment with her husband, Jack. But when she suggested an outing, his response came as a shock. What he confessed that evening broke her heart. Yet, he was far from imagining the lesson he was about to learn…
The routine that kills love

Like many couples, Mary and Jack had let themselves be swallowed up by daily life. They had raised four children , managed countless responsibilities , and, over time, the passion of the early days had given way to a heavy monotony .
In the evening, Jack would come home from work and settle down in front of the television , while Mary never stopped : meals, housework, laundry, children's homework… At the end of the day, she would collapse from exhaustion , invisible to the eyes of the one she loved.
Alone, late at night , she watched romantic movies, nostalgic for the time when she felt special, loved .
Until that evening.
A simple request, a brutal response
That evening, Mary made a decision . She wanted to rekindle the flame , to find what they had lost . So, during dinner, she gathered her courage and softly said:
— Jack, what if we went out together ? There's a new restaurant in town… It would be nice, just you and me.
Jack's response stunned her.
— A date? What for? We're not 20 anymore!
Then, looking at her disdainfully , he added:
— Look at you! You're always in your house clothes , your hair's a mess… Why would I take you outside? You embarrass me.
Mary felt her heart break . Since when had she become so insignificant in his eyes ?
Jack, indifferent, grabbed his jacket and left the house.
An unexpected shock

Jack spent the evening at his friend Sam's house , convinced he was going to relax at the bar . But Sam had other plans.
— Sorry, mate, I have a date with my wife tonight.
Jack burst out laughing.
— A date? No special occasion?
At that moment, Sam's wife came down the stairs , radiant. She was holding a bouquet of flowers , a bright smile on her lips.
— Oh, Sam, it's magnificent!
Jack watched the scene, troubled . His own wife hadn't smiled at him like that for years.
Sam then asked a question that shook him deeply :
— When did you last take Mary on a date?
Jack remained silent.
"You see," Sam continued, " I don't wait for a special occasion. I bring my wife because she's special. Every day."
Jack finally understood what he had lost.
A belated realization… but not too late

When Jack got home, he found Mary huddled on the sofa, her eyes red. Shame overwhelmed him.
Without a word, he placed a box in front of her . Surprised, she looked up.
" I'm sorry," he murmured. " I was unfair, cruel. You don't deserve this."
She opened the box: inside, a delicate silver necklace.
— Do you want to have dinner with me tomorrow night? I've booked a table in town.
For a moment, Mary remained frozen. Then, for the first time in a long time, she smiled.
A genuine smile.
A woman transformed, a couple saved
The next day, when Mary came down from their room , Jack was speechless.
She was sublime . But even more than that, she radiated.
It was at that moment that he realized: he had almost lost her. Not to another man. But to indifference.
That night, they weren't celebrating anything special. And yet, it was the beginning of a new story.
Because love isn't just nurtured on special occasions. Because to love is to choose, every day, to make the other person shine. And this time, Jack wouldn't forget it.
