An 11-year-old girl has died, plunging her community into deep sorrow. Her family suggests a possible case of bullying, while the school is putting support in place for students and their families affected by this tragedy.

For days, her loved ones tried to comprehend the incomprehensible. In Hamburg, a small town south of Buffalo, New York, the disappearance of 11-year-old Nadiya Santiago has deeply affected her family, her classmates, and her entire school community. Nadiya Santiago was a student at Frontier Middle School in Hamburg. According to her family, the girl died on May 19, 2026, at the age of 11.

This fundraising campaign was set up by Nadia Dicioccio, the family's sister-in-law, to help cover several expenses related to this ordeal, including funeral expenses, moving costs, and any potential legal fees.

Very quickly, a significant solidarity movement was organized around Nadiya's family and friends. A few days after its creation, the fundraiser had already raised nearly 24,000 euros.

A young girl described as cheerful and full of energy

In the many tributes published after her death, Nadiya is described as a radiant child who brought joy to those around her.

Her family describes her as a "bright and energetic" young girl who loved spending time with her friends and loved ones. She particularly enjoyed playing football and boxing, and appreciated outdoor activities with her siblings.

Those close to him also mention his infectious laughter, his kindness and his ability to connect with the people around him.

"His laughter and kindness touched so many lives," reads the fundraising page.

On social media, numerous tributes highlighted the profound sadness caused by her passing. A family friend, in particular, confided that she was struggling to accept this reality, fondly recalling the moments shared with the young girl.

The school reacts and mobilizes support teams

In response to this tragedy, the management of Frontier Middle School sent a message to parents and staff members on May 21.

In this statement, the school principal, Daniel Charland, described Nadiya as "a beloved member of our school community," known for her smile, generosity, and intellectual curiosity.

The school also announced the implementation of specific support for students affected by this loss. Counselors and social workers have been mobilized to help the young people express their emotions and cope with this period of mourning.

The school official also invited families to remain attentive to their children's digital activity, stressing the importance of vigilance and dialogue in the daily lives of teenagers.
