At just 13 years old, he lost his mother, a renowned actress.

 

How does one grow up when they lose their mother so young, especially when she was so loved? For Micheál Richardson, the eldest son of famous actor Liam Neeson, this question defined his adolescence. But years later, he made an emotionally charged choice, directly connected to the woman who gave him birth… and who continues to watch over him, in her own way.

A love worthy of a romantic movie

It all began like a scene from a play… literally! In 1993, Natasha Richardson and Liam Neeson met  on Broadway . She was married at the time, he was known as a ladies' man. And yet, between them, it was undeniable. An instant connection, as if their souls had recognized each other.

The story quickly takes a serious turn: Natasha divorces, the couple officially becomes a couple, and in 1994, they say  "I do" . Together, they build a simple and loving family life,  far from the Hollywood spotlight , with their two sons, Micheál and Daniel.

A united family, until that day in March 2009…

That day, Natasha was enjoying a moment in the mountains when she fell  while skiing . A bad landing, an injury she thought was minor… But very quickly, her condition worsened. Hospitalized, she was diagnosed as brain dead.

A devastated Liam Neeson clings to a promise they made to each other: never to force the other to lose all independence. He then makes the most difficult decision of his life: to let her go, after family and loved ones have had the chance to say goodbye.

At just 13 years old, Micheál's world was turned upside down. How could he overcome such an ordeal at that age? Surrounded by his father, his brother, and a close-knit family, he gradually found the strength to move forward. But it wasn't until years later that he would take a  profoundly significant step .

A name like a tribute of love

In 2018, Micheál made a personal but deeply symbolic decision: he changed his surname. From now on, he will be known as Micheál Richardson, in memory of his mother.

“It was my way of keeping her close to me, of taking her everywhere with me,” he confided. This seemingly simple gesture deeply moved Natasha’s loved ones… and filled Liam Neeson with  immense pride .

A career that follows in the parents' footsteps... but with its own unique light

Micheál didn't just take his mother's name; he also embraced the family passion for cinema. He acted in several films and series, forging his own path in a world where talent alone isn't always enough. But he managed to impose his sensitivity, his sincerity… and an almost hereditary intensity.

He even shared the screen with his father in two notable feature films:  Cold Pursuit  and  Made in Italy . The latter, particularly moving, tells the story of a father and son facing a difficult bereavement… A  poignant echo  of their own story.

A legacy that is passed on differently
