An attempted abandonment of a 6-year-old child in the forest: A father faces legal action

 

On Halloween night in Meurthe-et-Moselle, a celebration meant to be filled with joy and innocent fears turned into a nightmare for a young boy. His father, in an attempt to teach him a "lesson," considered abandoning him alone in a forest all night.

A failed escape that turns into a disaster

Not wanting to be left alone in this hostile environment, the young boy reportedly tried to cling to the door of his father's car as it started moving again. The scene is heartbreaking : the child clinging on, begging his father not to leave him, the car starting up… Then, disaster strikes .

The boy was seriously injured : a fractured skull, burns on his arms and hands . Given the severity of his condition , the father finally decided to take him to the emergency room at the University Hospital of Nancy.

An interpretation of events that is not convincing

Upon arriving at the hospital, the father tried to downplay the incident . He spoke of an accident that allegedly occurred during a nighttime walk with his son. According to him, his car got stuck in the mud and he accidentally hit the child while trying to get it going again .

However, the doctors quickly suspected a different reality . The child's injuries were too severe and too inconsistent with his history. Alerted, they immediately notified the police. In custody, the father persisted in his version of events , but the investigators, as well as the prosecutor, had serious doubts about its veracity .

A highly anticipated trial

After several months of investigation, the man is being tried today in court. Tried this Monday in Nancy for intentional violence against a minor under 15 years of age by a person in a position of authority , he faces up to five years in prison and a fine of 75,000 euros .

Despite the seriousness of the charges , he was initially released on bail after being formally charged. However, the trial that is about to begin could change the course of this disturbing case .
