                                                                                                                                                                         Ivanka Trump has always had a very close relationship with her father, Donald Trump. But as she grew up, there was one part of her life she carefully kept private: her romantic life.

"He was too proud to bring someone he was dating or a boyfriend home," Ivanka admitted in an interview with the *Express*.

She didn't want her boyfriends to face the intense scrutiny that came with dating Donald Trump's daughter.

But that changed in 2007, when Ivanka met Jared Kushner at a networking lunch.

For the first time, she decided to bring a boyfriend home to meet her father.

"I think I brought my husband home—well, he wasn't my husband at the time," she said.

"But I didn't want to subject my boyfriends to my father's—or my mother's—scrutiny unless I was 100% sure."

Ivanka and Jared married in 2009 and had three children: Arabella, Joseph, and Theodore.

Becoming a mother also changed the way Ivanka viewed her own father.

"I was 14 and I loved my father very much, but I didn't realize just how wonderful he was," she told *People*.

"Now that I'm a mother, I realize how hard it is. He was strict and firm, but he was always there for us."

For Ivanka, motherhood gave her a new perspective on the man who raised her and brought her even closer to her father.
