A simple walk in the woods can sometimes hold surprises whose magnitude we cannot even imagine. This Wednesday afternoon, 9-year-old Milly made a discovery that transformed an ordinary stroll into a veritable scientific investigation. What she thought was a common reptile turned out to be far rarer and more precious than she could ever have imagined.

It all began when the little girl spotted a strange black creature, its skin gleaming almost like metal, slithering between two rocks. A reptile native to South Africa, recognizable by its glossy black scaly shell and its defensive behavior when it feels threatened. Milly's father quickly took charge. The lizard was placed in safe custody while experts decided what to do next.
