Surrogate mother-in-law carried her own grandson for her son and his wife

An American woman became a surrogate mother for her own son, whose wife cannot carry a baby,  writes Mommyish.

Kayla Jones, 29, from Arkansas, and her husband, Cody, wanted to have a child, but health issues prevented her from doing so. At age 17, she underwent a partial hysterectomy (removal of the uterus).

A way out of the situation was found: the family decided to look for a surrogate mother.

"My ovaries weren't removed, so biologically I can still have children, but I'm not capable of carrying a baby on my own," Kayla says. "That's why my husband and I needed a surrogate mother."

The couple tried for a long time to find a suitable candidate, but were unsuccessful. Then they decided to look for someone from their close circle of people.

"My husband and I got married in 2012, and during that time my mother-in-law always joked that she was ready to be our surrogate," explains Kayla.

"After several of our surrogacy options didn't work out, we started taking my mother-in-law's suggestion more seriously."

Cody's mother, 50-year-old Patty, had undergone all the necessary tests that showed she was ready to carry the baby. But the first attempts came to nothing.

“We were devastated, but we decided to try again. In May 2017, we found out we were pregnant!” recalls Kayla.

After 7 months, a baby boy, Cross Alan Jones, was born by cesarean section.

"I was overwhelmed by this sudden miracle," the new mother said. "Giving birth through surrogacy was not easy for Patty... but having him here makes it all worth it."

Patty, who carried her son's child, endured the pregnancy and birth perfectly.

Kayla and Cody, in their words, are infinitely grateful to their entire family, who supported them financially and emotionally.

People who read about this happy, but rather unusual story react differently. Some are happy for the young people, others are puzzled.

"For the most part, our story has caused a huge reaction. Some people find it strange, but if they understand the whole process, it won't seem so strange anymore," Kayla notes.

The young parents admit that they wanted to have many children, but, given their previous experience, they are not convinced that they are ready to repeat all this.
