For five years, Annie Windley from Derbyshire, England, couldn't be near food. She began to feel almost physical discomfort just from the sight of food.
However, when the situation with her anorexia became critical, the girl found an unexpected solution that helped her get rid of her eating disorder and gain vital weight.
Counting calories
At the age of 15, Annie, like her friends, decided to start “counting calories.” But while other girls treated it without fanaticism, Windley got to the point where she practically stopped eating.
About a year later, her weight was just over 28 kilograms, and her diet was limited to a single piece of toast with jam or ham, tea, and some water.
It is not surprising that by the age of 19, Ani began to have serious health problems. She was periodically taken to the hospital because the girl's body simply could not exist without the energy that people usually get from food.
Nothing helped.
“Doctors and family were worried about my weight and suggested different psychologists, but I was so afraid of gaining weight that I ignored everything they said,” says Ani.
No amount of persuasion worked on Windley. Eventually, even when Annie happened to be near a plate of pasta or other food, she would panic, her hands would start shaking, and she would run from the room.
At the age of 20, the girl was in the hospital again, and this time it was much more serious. Doctors told Annie that her heart had weakened due to malnutrition and she was at risk of a heart attack.
One candy
Only realizing that her "weight loss" could end in death, Annie finally decided to do something. She went to the store with the idea that she wouldn't leave until she bought something to eat.
"On one of the shelves I saw chocolates that I loved as a child. I hadn't eaten them in 5 years and I thought why not start with them," recalls Ani.
Annie came home with a box of chocolates, opened it, and forced herself to eat one. Then she rushed to the scale. She weighed herself every 30 minutes until she finally realized that one candy bar had no effect on her weight.
New life
"It was crazy to think that by eating just one chocolate bar, I would immediately gain weight, but that very day I realized that food wasn't as scary as I imagined," shares Ani.
Slowly but surely, the chocolates helped Windley regain her love of food and reduce her fear of gaining weight.
After just one year, her weight was already 40 kilograms, that is, she was approaching the norm. And after another year, Windley, having completely revised her views on food, weighed 45 kilograms.
"Live a happy life"
"Of course, I feel much better now. Sometimes I look at my old photos and I'm horrified by the psychological hole I've fallen into. Anorexia is a very dangerous thing," the girl warns.
As soon as the girl returned to her normal weight, she found a boyfriend. In addition, she finally got into college and began to dream of becoming a designer.
"It turned out that almost all of my problems were related to anorexia. It not only interfered with my education, my relationships, and my aspirations, but also prevented me from living the normal, happy life that we all deserve," Ani wrote on her page on one of the social networks.
