Experts say this bad habit should be abandoned.

After a long day or a night that drags on, who hasn't given in to the temptation to head straight to bed without removing their makeup? It might seem like a harmless, almost innocuous gesture... And yet, it hides some real pitfalls for your skin and eyes. This seemingly innocent oversight could easily turn into a major beauty mistake. Ready to find out why?

Makeup and pores: a toxic couple overnight

Imagine your pores as tiny breathing tunnels. During the day, they accumulate makeup, pollution, sebum, and impurities. And at night, it's their time to release everything and regenerate. But what if you don't remove your makeup? These pores remain clogged, as if taped shut. The result: hello imperfections! Blackheads, pimples, and even acne breakouts can rear their ugly heads.

Did you know? Skin uses sleep to activate its repair mechanisms.  If it's prevented from breathing, it becomes clogged, irritated, and reacts. And a "clean" or "natural" foundation won't change anything: even the gentlest formulas can disrupt this balance.

Makeup accelerates the aging of your skin

The combination of makeup and pollution is a veritable free radical factory. These unstable little molecules attack collagen, that famous natural support network that gives skin its suppleness and firmness. The result? Premature wrinkles, loss of radiance, and a dull complexion. Thought your anti-aging products were doing the job?  Too bad, a night without removing your makeup can limit their effects.

Your eyes also need to breathe

Mascara, eyeliner, eyeshadow… These products aren't just stubborn, they're also the most insidious. During the night, they can migrate into the eye, irritate the conjunctiva, cause itching, or worse: infections. Have you ever woken up with a stye? That small, painful bump on your eyelid? It could simply be the result of a forgotten mascara.

A disturbing true story  : an Australian woman developed black lumps under her eyelids, formed by mascara residue accumulated over… years! Medical intervention was required. This extreme case clearly illustrates why this delicate area should never be neglected.

Weakened or even absent eyelashes

Mascara dries out, hardens, and stiffens. Sleeping with it on risks breaking your lashes, just like breaking a twig. In the long run, you might notice thinning, loss, or slower regrowth. And then, hello false eyelashes as a last resort… when a good makeup removal would have been enough.

How to get through it, even on lazy evenings

We all know those evenings when we lack energy. To avoid the trap:

  • Keep makeup remover wipes or micellar water on your bedside table. It's your quick backup plan!
  • Adopt the double cleansing method: makeup remover oil or micellar water, followed by a gentle cleanser with water.
  • Take care of your eyes: use a cotton pad soaked in specific makeup remover, press gently and leave for a few seconds before wiping.
  • Moisturize afterwards: even two drops of moisturizer can make a difference overnight.

A simple gesture, long-term effects

We too often underestimate the impact of just one night of makeup. Yet, your skin doesn't forget. Acne, premature aging, infections… the consequences gradually take hold. The right approach? Make makeup removal part of your evening routine, just like brushing your teeth.

Because healthy skin always starts with proper cleansing.
