8 years ago she weighed only 17 kg. But she managed to recover and this is what she looks like today:

Russian Kristina Kolyagina from the city of Barnaul became widely known in the media after appearing on the show "Let Them Talk." The girl suffered from anorexia and her weight reached a shocking 17 kg.

We decided to find out how her life developed.

It all started when the girl was a schoolgirl. The matriculant was so nervous before exams that she hardly ate anything. After her exams were over and she entered university, her weight continued to drop.

Despite this, Christina managed to get a law degree. But health problems began.

When she graduated from university, she could not work due to health reasons. Anorexia progressed and Kolyagina's weight dropped to a terrifying 17 kg.

In 2016, the girl, whose weight at that time already weighed 24 kg, along with another resident of Barnaul, became the heroes of the program "Let them talk" on Channel One. There she was told the bitter truth - that "you can die."

Only then did the girl realize how terrible the situation was.

A week after the broadcast, Kristina and her mother went to Nizhny Novgorod for emergency treatment with psychotherapist Jan Horland. A long road to recovery began.

Over the past few years, Christina has been trying to constantly improve her physical and mental fitness, and her efforts have paid off.

She says that without rehabilitation she would not have found her way. Her organs have not yet recovered. And all this is due to malnutrition. Her weight, of course, is not what it should be, but she has gained a lot. She does not like to talk with exact numbers, but the weight gain is visible.

In March 2023, Koryagina turned 31. On her birthday, she posted a photo on social networks. Subscribers noted that she looks great.

However, it seems that it is too early for news of her full recovery. On June 12 last year, Christina posted a landscape photo on her social network: "View of the set from a wheelchair..."

When asked about her recovery, the girl replied that she had not yet fully recovered.

According to her, she is still in a wheelchair because it is difficult for her to travel long distances due to problems with her spine and legs as a result of anorexia.

According to her doctor, she needs to gain 45 kg to function normally. However, so far, Kolyagina has not been able to reach that weight.

However, there is some good news. Despite her disability, she works from home as an assistant to the arbitration manager. Before that, she lived in her native Barnaul.

As cliché as it may sound, anorexia is not selective. Family problems or an unintentionally rude comment about appearance can trigger a process of self-destruction.

Anorexics have a distorted self-image. Unrealistic beauty standards, formed under the influence of fashion and the Internet, lead to complexes and loss of self-esteem. In addition, patients carefully hide their desire to lose weight from others.

According to Jan Horland, recovery requires working not only with the girl herself, but also with her relatives. The expert explains: “Such patients do not consider themselves sick at all and refuse help until the last moment.”

What does Christina look like today?
