On March 23, 1994, an Aeroflot Airbus A310 departed Moscow for Hong Kong. On board were 75 passengers, a seasoned crew, and Captain Yaroslav Kudrinsky, accompanied by his two teenage sons, Yana (13 years old) and Eldar (15 years old). This trip was a major first for them: their first international flight, a family adventure suspended in the clouds. At that time, post-Soviet Russia was beginning its modernization, and it was not uncommon for pilots' relatives to be invited to visit the cockpit. However, this practice, although officially prohibited, would prove fatal.

A cockpit transformed into a playground

Midway through the flight, with the aircraft held aloft by the autopilot, the captain decided to offer his children a special moment. He invited them to sit in his seat, believing he was offering them an enchanted interlude above the clouds. Yana took her seat first. She amused herself by manipulating the control stick, encouraged by her father who pointed out the city lights below. Nothing seemed amiss. Then it was Eldar's turn. Excited, the boy turned the stick as if simulating a turn. Unwittingly, he deactivated a crucial function of the autopilot. A small indicator light illuminated on the instrument panel. But neither the father nor the co-pilot noticed that the plane had just switched to manual mode. This tiny detail, completely unnoticed, would precipitate the fate of all the occupants.

The plane is rocking, panic is spreading through the cockpit

The aircraft then began to bank dangerously. The angle quickly reached 45 degrees, generating violent G-forces. Eldar, paralyzed by fear, could no longer move. His father, suddenly alarmed, shouted, "Eldar, go to the back!" The co-pilot desperately tried to regain control. The plane stalled, lost speed, and plummeted to nearly 260 km/h. For a few seconds, the pilots managed to partially regain control, but the altitude was far too low. A crash became inevitable.

The silence after the impact
